Treasure Island Resort Sold for $775 Million

Today's Big News:  MGM Mirage announced today that it agreed to sell the Treasure Island resort to Vegas real estate mogul Phil Ruffin for $775 million ($500 million in cash and $275 million in secured notes).

MGM Mirage's chairman and CEO, James Murren, said, "This transaction creates value to our stakeholders through significantly increased liquidity and enhanced financial flexibility."

In a nutshell: they need the cash.

Meanwhile, at least a few people think that Ruffin is getting a great deal.   Richard Abowitz, in his Movable Buffet blog, implies that he's surprised that the resort is going for less than $1 Billion.

But I don't think its that much of a great deal.  I think Ruffin has his work cut out for him.  read more...

The Very Best Show in Vegas - Our Opinion

Question - what's the best show in Vegas?A lot of people ask us "what's the very best show in Vegas?," so we thought we'd share our opinion on the matter.

We initially tried to avoid answering this question directly, since "best" is a matter of opinion, by writing two articles on the best shows in Vegas -- but these two articles cover roughly 12 shows, and it seems that people want us to narrow down the choices (and give a review).

So, here's our two cents.read more...

Vegas Thanksgiving Weekend - Smokin' Hot Deals

Thanksgiving weekend is a great time to visit Vegas.  Why?

First, because hotel rooms are on the cheap -- the rates we've found are far below the "normal" weekend rates.

Second,  its a great time to chill out in the Sin City.  The city seems to be a little more "chill" during Thanksgiving weekend, giving you plenty of opportunity to unwind and relax before heading back to work on Monday.

Third, there are still plenty of great things to do, and shows to see, such as David Spade at Planet Hollywood, or Le Reve at the Wynn.  Check out our Ultimate Vegas Thanksgiving Guidefor more information on things to do in Vegas over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Check out some of these great rates we found on the VegasChill site for Friday Nov. 28 - Sunday Nov. 30th (2 nights): read more...
