Las Vegas Weddings: the Basics

MGM Grand's wedding chapel with a happy bride and groom

Getting married in Vegas is easy!

You can pretty much have your wedding at any time and day, and at any level of simplicity or extravagance.

And whether you’re taking half an hour or half a year to plan your perfect Vegas wedding, here are a few things to consider.

Weather

Summertime is one of the more popular seasons for weddings in Vegas.  Despite all of the amazing innovations and changes that have been made in this desert town, the weather is one constant, uncontrollable force.  May through September can be miserably hot, with June and July being the worst. Temperatures can soar up to 110 during the day. This means that if you don’t want your flowers baked and your guests suffering heatstroke, you’ll probably want to hold your summer ceremony indoors or at night.

Holidays

While special holidays, like Valentine’s Day or New Years Day, are very romantic marriage dates, they are some of the most hectic, as well. Hundreds of couples descend on Vegas on holidays, all scrambling to make their wedding dreams come true.  If you are determined to have your wedding on a holiday, make sure you book your flights, lodging and reception area far in advance.

Ceremony Lengths

The quickie Vegas chapel wedding is no myth – most of these ceremonies last for about thirty minutes.  This doesn’t leave a lot of time for heartfelt vows and speeches or lengthy photo sessions.  So if you’re looking for a leisurely and emotional ceremony, you may want to scratch the chapel option and go for one of the more traditional ceremony options that Vegas offers.

Licenses

Though chapel weddings are quick, you will still need to obtain a marriage license to make it official.  You can get one for $55 at the Clark County Marriage Bureau, 201 Clark Avenue.  The office is open from 8am to midnight seven days a week. You can reach them by phone at 702-671-0600.

Witnesses

For eloping couples with no friends or family in tow, most wedding chapels have employees who can act as witnesses to your ceremony.

Wedding Officiants

Wedding chapels all offer their owned ordained ministers, priest, rabbis or other wedding officiants.  They will usually not accept an outside officiant to preside over your wedding.  If you are looking for a more traditional wedding and are not bringing your own officiant, there are plenty of religious and non-denominational ministers in the Las Vegas area.

Marriage Convenience

Wedding planning services are booming in Las Vegas and are a great way to take stress out of your special day.  Planners can do everything from booking your reception area to buying your flowers to planning your bachelor and bachelorette parties.  Even many casino chapels now offer in-house wedding coordinators to help you plan a wedding on the fly.

Getting Beautified

If you’re staying at a larger hotel, you may find that they have a salon and spa on their premises.  Of course, there are plenty of options in Vegas and you may want to research salons before you go or ask hotel staff for advice on great hair and make-up places.  Of course getting beautified can also be a process that you'll want to start at least a month before your Vegas wedding. You'll want to make sure that you get your skin in great shape well in advance of your wedding.  Check out the fantastic skincare products from our friends at Murad:

Language

Since Las Vegas is the wedding capital of the US and has so many international visitors, wedding services can be performed in a huge number of languages, including Spanish, German, Japanese, French and Italian.

Las Vegas is a city of fun and no matter what kind of wedding you decide to have, there are thousands of options to make it something everyone attending will never forget.
