What to Wear in Vegas

So you’re planning your trip to Las Vegas and you have no idea what to pack.  Here is our basic guide to planning your Vegas wardrobe.

Dressing the Part in Vegas

While visiting Las Vegas, one of the best ways to jump right in and get a full Vegas experience is to dress the part.  Many a tourist walking the Strip opts for the easy khaki/tennis shoe ensemble but the Las Vegas fashion scene has so much more to offer.

In Vegas, you will find opportunity for multiple outfits in one day, depending on what activities you’ll be enjoying.  Whether you’re taking a night in the casino, lounging poolside or indulging in a wild night on the town, you have the opportunity to look great every step of the way.

If we were to choose two words to describe the Vegas style vibe they would be “cool” and “fun”.  This leaves plenty of room for personal interpretation but you only need to take a look around the Strip to see these two concepts in action.

Vegas Outfits

For women, pretty dresses and short skirts are a favorite for perusing the Strip, while hot getups make a night out extra special.  Men tend towards a clean but casual look, often pairing jeans with a cool t-shirt for the daytime or a button-down shirt at night.  A nice pair of hip sunglasses will help keep the sun and neon out of your eyes, as well as giving you that glamorous Vegas look.  See our articles on Vegas nightlife style for women and Vegas clubwear for guys for more on Vegas nightlife style.

Any trip to Vegas should include at least one night of all-out glamour and indulgence, so you’ll want one outfit that trumps everything else you bring with you.  Whether you’re sampling some of the finest cuisine in the world, watching a breath-taking show or enjoying the excitement at the gaming tables, this will be your time to look your best.

The classic upscale Vegas look would be a sexy dress for the ladies and a sleek suit for men.  If you don’t have anything in your closet that fits the bill, check out some of the amazing shops and boutiques in Vegas (see our other articles on shopping in Vegas).  Or, if the couture prices make your wallet look a little lean, check out some online shops, like Overstock.com, that have great looks for less.  Lastly, women might want to check out our article on Vegas dresses on sale for a look at some great dresses for Vegas under $100.

Almost Anything Goes in Vegas

If you are looking to truly shed your everyday image and explore the fashion horizons of Las Vegas, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to wear as much, or as little, as you can stand.  What goes over the top in nearly any other place is just about right in Vegas.  This means you can don more shiny objects than Elizabeth Taylor and still look respectable.  Just be aware that doormen and hosts do have standards and you’re at their mercy when you go into clubs and restaurants.

The bottom line of fashion in Vegas is anything goes but that’s only more reason to have fun with what you wear.  Think about what classic Vegas image you want to embody – classic and cool, fun and adventurous, smoldering and mysterious – and run with it.
