Vegas Clubwear for Guys

Don't let the fashion bug keep you home!

There is definitely a double standard in Vegas when it comes to dressing – men are judged far more strictly than women for what they wear.  Most Vegas clubs try to attract women because they attract men who will spend money.  That means that men who aren’t trying to impress aren’t welcome.  While this might not be fair, many men lose out on a good time because what they wear isn’t up to par.

What to Wear to a Vegas Club

Here are a few rules of thumb to consider before you go out:

Jeans and Pants

Jeans are appropriate for many nightclubs in Las Vegas, but make sure they look good.  This means nothing baggy, ratty or dirty.  Dark washes like, this one from AG jeans, make great clubwear.

Or these 7 For All Mankind Jeans A Pocket Cord Pants:

These Ed Hardy Tigerhead Leather Detailed Jeans are also a great nightclub look (but beware, they may be too casual for some clubs):

If you’re going to a more upscale club or you just don’t want to take any chances, wear a pair of flat-front, dark slacks.

Shirts

Stay away from t-shirts and anything sleeveless.  Hip, button-down, collared shirts are a good bet.  Something like these Calvin Klein Purple Fashion Dress Shirts could work nicely with jeans or slacks:

Or this Calvin Klein Long Sleeve Tubular Stripe Woven Shirt:

For a more casual and edgy nightclub look, this Lucky Brand Jeans Tattoo Embroidery Shirt, would look great when paired with jeans:

Shoes

Anything too casual in the shoe area should also be avoided.  There are plenty of good alternatives to tennis shoes out there, so shop around!  Kenneth Cole has perfected the leather shoe and also designs some great menswear.

Something like these polished Kenneth Cole shoes would work:

These Prada Men's Black Leather Ankle Boots are also a great bet (and they're on super-sale, too!):

The Slick, Cool and Expensive Look

Overall, think slick, casual-cool and expensive when picking out your Vegas wardrobe.  This might mean a sport jacket and tie, but it might just mean a crisp button down shirt tucked into slim black slacks and immaculate leather shoes.  Think about what looks good on your body (hint: skinny jeans are called “skinny” for a reason).

Las Vegas is all about glitz, so take some small fashion risks to stand out from the crowd.   A pair of cool glasses, a funky belt or a flashy watch can add a bit of extra flair to an otherwise standard outfit.

Something like these Ed Hardy Leather Signature Tattoo Wrist Cuffs perhaps, if you're going to one of Vegas's many mega-clubs:

Take cues from celebrities but don’t overdo it.   Be yourself and go with your style, just take it to the next level.  Kanye West, a fashion chameleon, is great at mixing casual and sophisticated elements, perfect for clubbing.

If you’re really stuck, ask your female friends or acquaintances.  Women have a sharp eye for what looks good and what doesn’t and if you don’t take things too personally, they can give you some good ideas.

Great picks :)

I'm going to Vegas soon with my bf, and this article is very helpful. Great fashion ideas. Thanks.

Bull Crap!!!

dont believe this crap. I live in Las Vegas and you can wear anything you want. Getting in or not getting in is all about the cash. Women pay cover charges and very often pay for guys drinks. Las Vegas is an EO location.

Dear Mr. Bullcrap

Thank you for your comment.

We certainly didn't mean to imply that Vegas was not an EO location, although looking at the article now I can see how it could be taken this way.  You make a good point.  (We did talk briefly about EO for Vegas clubs in our Vegas nightlife tips article.)

At the same time, we know that there are several clubs in Vegas that enforce dress codes - whether for men or women.  Not all clubs, of course, but several nonetheless.

Of course some people can afford to dish out extra cash to get around a dress code requirement, but not everybody is in this situation.  With the economy being quite on the rocks lately, we're guessing that many people are conserving their cash - and would rather not have to dish out more cash than needed.

I actually saw two guys get denied entrance to a club last weekend.  They were both wearing baggy jeans and sneakers, which was not allowed.  They decided to try another club.  We think that its quite a bummer to get denied entry into a club, especially when you're on vacation and have a limited amount of time in another city.

Anyway, thank you for your comment and hope to see again on the site soon.

WHAT WOMEN?

No women I know buy guys drinks. C'mon, really. I mean maybe very rarely, but seriously that's just kind of stupid. Of course I'll pick up a drink sometimes - but me, nope - I just don't buy drinks for guys. To clarify, if I'm on a date and we stop at 5 different places in the course of the evening-I actually like to pay for a round at one of the places to assert my POWER. Also - no, you can't wear anything you want anywhere you want (guys AND ladies). Unless you don't go to any upscale clubs. All the upscale clubs have dress codes - no baggy jeans, hats etc... - just happens that more men than women wear this stuff. And, yes, these kinds of clubs do enforce their dress code.

Dress Code

Is "Dress Code" code for "how hot the doorman thinks you are"? I've seen the outside of the "upscale" clubs...it's like a pageant or a runway show and your access is controlled by how impressed with you the doorman is or isn't.
