Romantic Vegas Getaway Guide – for Parents

Guide for a Romantic A couple enjoying dinner at Joel Robuchon restaurant at MGM Grand Las VegasVegas Getaway

Having kids means that time for romance is scarce so you want to make the most of your quality time together.  You don’t want to be in a tiny hotel room sleeping in single beds with the sound of a casino floor below you.

Ensure that you plan your budget so that accommodation is higher up the list than you would usually put it.

Make sure you do your research about the hotel and the rooms so that when you arrive, your first impression is great.

Big hint:  we suggest booking a room at one of the 4-star or 5-star hotels in Las Vegas, rather than trying to save a few bucks by staying at a lower-rated hotel.  See our hotel deals section for great rates on some of the top 4-star or 5-star hotels.

This is about romance for you and your partner.  Make it a great trip by staying at a great hotel

Chocolate truffles from Jean Philippe Patisserie at the BellagioIf you are planning a secret romantic getaway to Vegas for your partner, ask when you make the reservation if they can provide extras such as red roses, or chocolates and champagne to be waiting in your room when you arrive.

The beautiful chocolate truffles shown in the photo, right, are from the Jean Philippe Patisserie at the Bellagio; imagine having a box of these waiting on your pillow when you arrive at your room -- what a thoughtful, and romantic, gesture.  Most hotels will organize any of these extras for you and it will be a nice touch to start your romantic Vegas getaway.

Despite the bright lights, noise and volume of people, Las Vegas is a great spot for romance.

Why not arrange to have your wedding vows retaken in one of the chapels there?   Yes, there are those who may think that a Las Vegas wedding is tacky, but really it’s only as tacky as you believe it to be.  For most people it’s something they’ll never forget -- there’s more than one marriage certificate from the Little Chapel in Las Vegas framed and hanging on the home of a couple we know who have now been married a good many years.

See our article on Las Vegas wedding tips for more ideas and information about Las Vegas weddings, or ask your hotel concierge for their suggestions.

Whether you remarry (or even marry if you haven’t already tied the knot with your partner) then decide how to spend the rest of your evening.  Will you head for the tables complete in your wedding attire?  Or will you and your beloved have a romantic gondolier ride at the Venetian before having a little gamble at your game of choice?

Springs Preserve Las VegasThe next day why not get away from it all with a  walk in the Springs Preserve, or with a majestic tour of the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead

If you want excitement then why not take a rafting tour down the Colorado river, or take a helicopter or plane ride through the Grand Canyon.  These are unique experiences that neither of you will forget.

Back in Vegas, make sure you’ve got tickets for one of the great shows

And, being as there’s just the two of you, why not take a look at Zumanity (shown in the photo, right) or MGM Grand's Crazy Horse Paris, both of which are adult-only shows, before ordering a bottle of wine to share back in your hotel room.

Making the decision to leave the kids at home isn’t one parents take lightly, but there are times when you need to recharge your relationship batteries and rediscover your partner.

A romantic getaway in Vegas will allow you to do all that and more.

By the time you’re done with the sizzling sun, scenery and shows, the memories will keep your relationship sizzling for a long time after your back home again.
